Mia S. Scotland

Clinical psychologist, birth doula, and author of Birth Shock: how to recover from Birth Trauma. C.Psych, BA(hons), MSc. Clin.Psych

I am a mother of three boys, a clinical psychologist, and a birth doula – my experience as a doula gives me a unique understanding of what actually happens in the birthing room. I have been treating trauma successfully for over 25 years and have specialised in perinatal mental health for the past 15 years.

We know that talking isn’t always enough to treat trauma. Sometimes, the brain needs help to reprocess the memory, so that you can remember it without the raw, distressing feelings coming flooding back.
I work with birthing mums and with partners. We know that partners get traumatised by birth too.

I work face-to-face in Leicester, but also over the phone and Skype.

I use the most gentle techniques that I can find, to make your journey of recovery as easy as it can be.
