Lisa McKendrick

A traumatic birth can leave you feeling frightened, overwhelmed, or wondering why you can't simply "move on" from what happened. You may find yourself replaying your birth experience, feeling anxious about your baby's safety, struggling to enjoy parenthood, or feeling disconnected from yourself or those around you. Whatever you're experiencing, you don't have to face it alone.

I am an HCPC-registered Practitioner Psychologist with over 15 years' experience supporting people to recover from trauma. My work has focused on helping people understand and heal from the psychological impact of traumatic experiences, and I have a specialist interest in birth trauma. I am trained in EMDR and Compassion Focused Therapy, two evidence-based approaches that can help you make sense of what you've been through, reduce distress, and feel more like yourself again.

Birth trauma is also something I understand personally. Alongside my professional training and experience, this has deepened my appreciation of how overwhelming, isolating and life-changing a traumatic birth can be, and informs the compassion and sensitivity I bring to my work.

My approach is warm, compassionate and collaborative. I believe that the emotional responses people experience after birth trauma make sense in the context of what they have been through. Together, we can make sense of your experience, reconnect with yourself, and move forward with hope.
