Aleksandra Balazy-Knas

Still replaying your birth? Not the whole thing - one moment. The one
where something changed and nobody told you what was happening.

You've probably been told you're lucky, or that at least the baby's
fine. Neither of those touches what you’re actually carrying.

And if you're pregnant again, there's a deadline on it. That's the
work I do most: getting the last birth out of the way of this one, so
you walk in feeling more in control rather than braced for the worst.
We build a birth plan around what you actually need to feel safe.

I'm Aleksandra – a BABCP-accredited CBT therapist and EMDR therapist.
Over a decade in NHS mental health, still working in the NHS alongside
private practice.

Talking about a traumatic birth and shifting it aren't the same thing.
When a birth is traumatic the memory gets stored differently, which is
why it can still ambush you years later. EMDR and trauma-focused CBT
work on that memory directly. Most women who come to me have already
talked about what happened. Something still hasn't moved.
