Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling. Foundation training in Group Analysis. Postgraduate Diploma in Hypnosis for medical practitioners. MA in Counselling. BSc in Midwifery

I am a BACP registered counsellor working part-time as a perinatal counsellor in the NHS as well as seeing people privately. I see clients individually, as couples and sometimes run groups and training.  I was a midwife for 18 years so have an in-depth understanding of the birth process and the many ways in which it can have a life-changing effect on women (and men). The medical system can feel overwhelming so that sometimes your own voice and experience gets lost in the momentum of choices and procedures, leaving a feeling of powerlessness, confusion or fear. This is together with the fact that childbirth is such a huge event –affecting the body, relationships, life choices and self-image.  Pregnancy and birth can also bring up difficult experiences from childhood or of being parented, as well as connecting to previous trauma.

I have particular interest in:

  • Birth trauma – whether physical or psychological

  • Fear of childbirth

  • Needle and other phobias

  • Antenatal and postnatal anxiety and depression

  • Making sense of being a parent/having a baby

  • Perinatal loss

  • Pregnancy and birth for those who have experienced sexual trauma

  • Trauma in Health Care professionals

I work in a collaborative way using attachment, compassionate mind and hypnosis when appropriate within the counselling. I sometimes use hypnosis in reprocessing traumatic memories if appropriate within the therapy.

Sometimes only a small number of sessions are required in order to deal with an experience you have been through, and for others it can be part of a longer process of understanding and making deeper changes in your life.
